Image 26
An old Otis machine - I believe it is derelict for several reasons...
the debris and the fact that the oiler chain is protruding from the inspection hole.
This normally closed-loop chain is wrapped around the armature shaft and drags through
the bearing oil which is stored at the bottom of the casting where the overflow/inspection
cup is located. This machine has bronze armature bearings and requires a thin film of oil
between the shaft and the bearing surface at all times.

Looks like the same three Unites States Elevator Company machines, however...
the second governor tells me they probably have counterweight safeties.
Is that the dead-end hitch between the two governors with a load weighing device?
