Mechanical Position Indicator Drives

Ever wonder how these mechanical position indicators work?

Here is a diagram I scanned from a wonderful book by John H. Jallings entitled "ELEVATORS".

As you can see the winding-drum or one of the sheaves at the top of the hoistway drives a device which controls a wire rope. This wire rope runs down the hoistway and loops into and drives each position indicator. A weight at the end of this wire rope is provided to maintain the correct amount of tension in the system.

This appears to have been a mechanical indicator at one time...
you can still see the floor designations around the up/down arrows.

I'm guessing those are "correction" pins near the K and 6 symbols...
used to stop the pointer at the top and bottom if the driving device malfunctions.
The pointer would have to be mounted on something that slips when obstructed...
