UncleKrakr informs me: "I worked on these in the 80's at One Liberty Plaza ...near ground zero in NYC.
On the left you would insert the mail bin, select a floor and it would be picked up. On the right when
the bin reached the floor it would be kicked out and this would all happen without the conveyor ever
stopping...all timing. The building was about 70 stories tall and these multiple loadings and unloadings
would be going on all at once...interesting. If it was down a loud horn would sound to warn it was about to start."

You don't see very many dumbwaiters with collapsible car gates.
Looks like there might be a platform lift adjacent to the dumbwaiter.
